The Challenge

The brief was to create a fun, distinctive cover for a genre science-fiction novel that would capture its irreverent humour and sense of adventure, while avoiding the darker, more serious aesthetic often associated with the genre.

The Solution

Drawing on the colourful, eccentric world of the novel, I combined bold typography with vibrant sci-fi imagery to create a playful and energetic visual identity. The design balances the futuristic setting with the story’s humour, using bright colour and a strong graphic treatment to reflect Johnny Gomez’s chaotic journey.

The Result

The finished cover immediately communicates a sense of fun, adventure and escapism, while standing out within the science-fiction market. The bold visual language and playful tone create a distinctive identity that reflects the unconventional world of Space Brooms! and invites the reader to discover what lies beyond the cover.
