The Challenge

The brief was to create a striking cover for a Scandinavian noir thriller set in Poland, while avoiding the traditional cold, minimalist landscape imagery associated with the genre.

The Solution

Drawing on the themes of disappearance, memory and distorted identity, I used a dramatic waterfront photograph as the foundation, transforming the reflection into a key visual device. Bold, distorted typography reinforces the unsettling nature of the story, while the warm sunset tones introduce a more atmospheric and contemporary feel.

The Result

The finished cover creates an immediate sense of mystery and unease while standing apart from the conventional Scandinavian noir aesthetic. The combination of atmospheric imagery and disrupted typography gives Never Found a distinctive, contemporary identity designed to attract thriller readers while clearly communicating the darker tone of the novel.
