The Challenge

To create a bold, contemporary cover for a memoir documenting feminism and women’s experiences in Ireland, while avoiding a predictable or overly academic approach.

The Solution

I developed a striking graphic concept using a stylised female figure that also forms the shape of a pen, representing the author’s voice, writing and personal story. The mirrored “BACKWARDS” reinforces the title and the idea of looking back at the progress—and setbacks—of feminism..

The Result

A distinctive, eye-catching cover that combines strong typography, colour and visual symbolism to communicate both the subject matter and the personal nature of the book. The pen/woman graphic gives the design an additional layer of meaning while keeping it simple and immediately recognisable
