The Challenge

The brief was to create a striking cover for a contemporary crime thriller centred on a woman whose past catches up with her while travelling in Italy. The design needed to communicate suspense, danger and movement, while appealing to a predominantly female thriller readership

The Solution

I used a cinematic photographic approach, combining an atmospheric landscape with a running female figure to suggest urgency and escape. The oversized yellow typography becomes part of the image rather than simply sitting over it, creating a strong graphic treatment and reinforcing the title. The contrast between the cool blue environment and warm yellow tones adds energy and tension while giving the cover a contemporary commercial feel.

The Result

The finished cover is bold, dynamic and immediately recognisable as a thriller. The running figure creates an instant sense of movement and intrigue, while the oversized title gives the design strong shelf and thumbnail impact. The combination of photography, colour and typography creates a fresh visual identity that feels both atmospheric and commercially appealing.
